Mobile Web Will Be Most Used Internet Service by 2015
As seen on mashable.com, a new study was released by Morgan Stanley. The 85-page long report predicts how the Internet will be used until 2015. The study shows an exponential growth in smart-phones, web-enabled tablets, GPS systems, video games and wireless home appliances. (Of course only if the governments can support the web services with the necessary frequency range). The analysts at Morgan Stanley believe that the mobile web usage will be even larger than desktop Internet by the year 2015.
The reason for this growth are the better data coverage and smaller and cheaper devices, enabling Internet usage at any point of daily life. A crucial point for mobile Internet usage is the 3G coverage (or other a frequency range). In Japan already 96% of all mobile phone subscribers have 3G, whereas in Western Europe the coverage is at 54% and in the US at 46%.
A second field to keep an eye on is the mobile e-commerce. While nowadays only 4% of retail sales are generated threw mobile e-commerce (although some sectors like music, books or tickets already generate up to 45% of sales), Japan already sells 20% of its products via mobile e-commerce.
Social Web
Some interesting facts on social media and the change in the Internet landscape can be found as well. In 2006 users spent most of their time on Yahoo or MSN, but no they focus their attention mainly on Facebook and YouTube. In 2009 there were more people on Facebook than E-Mail users.
