Advertising Age Viral Video Chart – Week 17
Did Fox and ABC “reject” the Lane Bryant ad? Well, no but having a video declared as “rejected” on YouTube seems to be a guarantee for success. That in a combination of some big boobs packed in nice lingerie.
Get your advertising “rejected” and it usually goes viral. GoDaddy gets rejected every year from the Superbowl and millions of people of on to YouTube and want to know why. Same thing for gay dating site ManCrunch and PETA. So, just make a clip offensive enough to get some conservatives head spinning and you are good to go viral.
Exactly that’s what Lane Bryant did and it worked. This weeks Advertising Age viral ad chart is lead by the lingerie ad with Ashley Graham. Her “Are her boobs to big for TV?” headlines got people to view the video 2’333’000 times last week. Impressive.
Fox ultimately did run the ad in the last 10 minutes of “American Idol,” the highest-rated show on TV, and pointed out that the network has run ads for Playtex for “full-figured” women but only after 9 p.m. ABC also accused Lane Bryant of blowing smoke, and said the ad was accepted for “Dancing With the Stars.”
