Digital Killed The Video Star – Why Music Video Channels Will Extinct

68 of the top 100 most watched YouTube clips of last week where music videos. I sing “digital killed the video star”.

Founder & CEO, Coalition Media Group and worldwide Manager for pop star Lady Gaga, Troy Carter said: “create music videos for YouTube.” After Lady Gaga scored 1’000’000’000 views with her three video clips «Poker Face», «Bad Romance» and «Just Dance» MTV and Co have to find a something to hold their viewers. Troy Carter explains on TechCrunch why he thinks MySpace is dead, why YouTube music clips are real cash cows and how YouTube has changed the music business.

YouTube is great for video music clips: you get what you want (instead of having to wait for two hours till your favorite clip comes), you can watch it over and over, picture quality doesn’t necessarily have to be good when watching a music clip, and the three minute clips are a perfect match for YouTube.

Music videos are probably the most important segment for YouTube. If you look at last weeks statistics there are 68 music clips in the most watched 100 videos on YouTube. With competition moving from MTV to the digital channels, the TV stations will have some trouble holding their viewers. What will be their answer?
